Leigh Occhi, 13 and ready to start the eighth grade, was still in her pajamas the morning of August 27, 1992, when her mother left their home in Tupelo, Mississippi, for work. Rain bands from Hurricane Andrew moved over the city. The worried mother called home, got no answer and rushed back. She found blood and hair -- but no Leigh.
The photographs are haunting: a toddler with huge, saucer eyes; a teenager smiling shyly; a middle-aged couple; a freckle-faced Little Leaguer.
